OpenRoad 90° Awning Review I recently received and installed my OpenRoad 90° Awning, and overall, I’m really impressed with the quality, design, and build. It looks and feels very well made, and I’m excited to put it to the test on my upcoming camping and overlanding trips. That said, I did notice a few things that I hope OpenRoad4WD can improve or consider for future product configurations. 1. Installation Manual My package did not include an installation manual. While the installation is fairly straightforward, having a printed or included manual would make the setup much easier, especially for first-time buyers. 2. Additional Clamp Brackets The awning came with only two mounting brackets—one for the front crossbar and one for the rear crossbar. My roof crossbars do not have T-slots, so I need to use the clamp-style brackets. For my setup, having only one clamp bracket per crossbar doesn’t provide as much stability as I would like. Including additional clamp brackets would be a great improvement and would allow customers with different crossbar setups to mount the awning more securely. 3. Side Walls I noticed that the awning has zipper attachments that appear to be designed for side walls. I would really like to see side walls specifically made for the 90° Awning become available for purchase. That would make the awning even more useful for camping, especially for additional privacy and protection from the elements. 4. Drop-Down Storage Pocket One other thing I noticed is that the drop-down storage pocket is no longer included in the current product configuration. I saw this feature in some earlier reviews of the same awning, and I think it was a really useful addition. Hopefully, it can either be brought back or offered as an optional accessory in the future. Despite these concerns, I’m very happy with the awning overall. The quality, design, and self-standing 90° setup are impressive, and I’m looking forward to using it more on my upcoming trips. Hopefully, OpenRoad4WD will consider these suggestions because with a few small improvements, this could be an even better product. 👍🏕️🚙
Absolutely happy with my new 90 degree awning by OpenRoad. The build quality is fantastic, opening the awning takes less than a minute, the awning itself is very robust and can withstand significant wind and the built-in multi-colored dimmable LED's are SO COOL! Last and certainly not least the price for this awning is a steal when compared with similar competing awnings. Highly recommend.
The awning seems like it would be a good product unfortunately customer service seems to be severely lacking. The awning wasn't shipped from the company in 2 business days as noted on the website, that took over a week. When it arrived it had 2 broken pieces. The rivet holding the fabric was broken and the plastic clip that holds one of the arms in was broken. I received the product over a month ago and still haven't received the parts to repair. I would love to give a review on the actual product but haven't been able to even use it yet because it's still sitting broken.
Overall experience was great. I was not sure if it would be too big for my 2026 Crosstrek but it was a perfect fit. Also by mounting the awning on my cargo rack if gave me the right height underneath it. So far it seems very strong, durable and very easy to assemble and put away. I am very happy with my purchase.

This is mounted to the Yakima platform on my Bronco Sport. The height is perfect and installation was very easy. The awning has heavy duty zippers that would support side walls so hopefully those will be available some day. Setup is easy and the tri-color LED lighting is a plus.
(Not fully setup in photo) BUT MAN is this legit! Things pops right open (literally)! The lights are nice and it comes with support legs just in case. This is worth EVERY PENNY!
Great awning at a great price! install was pretty easy. Tho I didn't find a clear instruction of how to close and put the awning back into the enclosure. But it is not hard to figure out. Overall quality looks very good. The only concern I may have is that plastic clip to hold the poles when it first folds in. Only used once so far. I'm sure I will find more situation to use since it can be deploy and stored quickly. I see it has zippers all around the edge, I assume a future room or wind break/extension is coming.
Very strong material. Works well. -1 star for too many loose pieces. I was expecting all the legs to be together and intact with the awning. I also was hoping that the LED lights doesn't need dangling power cables. But besides the loose pieces, everything works great. Quick shipping. The packaging department may want to stick a note on the awning to warn buyers to remove all mounting equipments from the awning before mounting it. I didn't use the mounting brackets that came with the awning so I didn't notice everything were stored inside the awning. After I mounted on the awning on my jeep, and when I opened it for the 1st time, the legs and 2 metal mounting brackets fell onto me. Luckily I didn't get hurt. Readers beware.

Love the size not too big not too small, and the fact is quick opening is a plus. I also loved that it came with led lights I was not expecting that. I recommend it! A++

This awning is an excellent choice because of the following: 1) Quality materials and construction 2) Ease of deployment. Really just way too easy 3) Set up time is approximately 3 min from deployment to setting up the poles and setting up the wire for the LED light bars 4) Did I mention light bars??? The light color options is just clutch. 5) Packing it up is easy as setting it up Highly recommend this awning, the build and frame of the awning is strong. In a no wind environment, I was able to deploy the awning to give it time to dry. You won’t regret owning this nice gear.
Love the awning and the ease of setup! The arms feel strong and the brackets feel like quality heavy duty brackets that can handle the weight. I like that it comes with everything you need for multiple types of install so that you don't have to purchase any extra hardware to mount it to most vehicles. I am only giving it 3 stars because the small clamp piece in my last photo was crushed by the awning arm during assembly from the looks of it the first time I opened it. I was told I will receive a new clamp about a month ago but have not got any shiping information or clamp yet. While I love the awning, the clamp not holding the arm in while rolling up the fabric makes closing it up somewhat difficult. I will happily change my review to 5 stars once I get the replacement part.
Just got my new 270 Plus awning installed this past weekend and I immediately took my truck out to Fort Fisher to do a little field testing. I must say, I love this thing. I was a little hesitant at first because of the price but man this thing is mint. Great quality construction and extremely easy to setup and pack back up. I can actually set this awning up in less time than it used to take me to setup my old 90 degree one I had on the back of my truck. I also ordered the new version of the shower setup as well and can’t wait for that to get here and install it too. Next item on my list will be the side walls! Great work guys. Very easy install. Even easier to operate. I was lmpressed how well built it is. The only but was no instruction sheet. But easy to figure out. Definitely recommend it.
The awning is nice easy and fast setup. The one reason I’m subtracting one star is it came with a lot of scratches and the outer storage bag had rips in it(they did give a partial refund for these issues). Also another reason for the subtracting a star is the poles that hold it up will fall down in the wind if you don’t have them locked in properly. Perfect amount of shade to get away from the sun. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quick and easy to use awning.

Install was a breeze on my 90* self opening awning. Plenty of hardware options for different type applications. My application actually needed a additional main support bracket to make me feel secure about the install. And I contacted customer service. They were very helpful and willing to send me an additional bracket at no charge. I did not need any other mounting hardware as the kit had plenty other nuts, bolts & washers included for other type install. So I was about to use those for the additional support bracket. While not matching the original hardware. It still worked. Plus your unable to see the back mounting side anyways.. Only hic-up I have is. Not that its installed. I wish I would have gotten a 180* Awning. And I actually may move this 90* to a Teardrop camper I have. And order a new 180* from OPENROAD4WD
