I have had this awning over a year. First mounted on my truck and now on my trailer.
It is well made and stood up to driving rain and a couple of snow storms. I bought the wall kit and use it as a separate living area. The poles are strudy, the guide line and cam work flawlessly. Wish they had a 5th wall but I am super happy with this product.
The materials are top notch. The arms are sturdy without out poles but I put them down in case wind gusts pop up.
Most of the time I have used this awning has been in forest- temperate climates, know I plan on using it in the desert southwest. I will update after I have used it a few more months. If you're on the fence about this I'll tell you that from packaging to delivery, customer support and use, this awning will not disappoint !

We have the 270 awning, the awning sides, the bathroom that we use as a changing room as well, with the 10 gallong water shower system that we also plumbed into our camp kitchen with an instant water heater. It's awesome! It has made our VW camper absolutely awesome to take out!

Love the awning. Super simple setup and great coverage. Lights are great. We have zero complaints.

I bought the awning and sides about a year ago, but last august 14th was my first trip. I really loved it as I can open any side for air (it does get hot inside) and the beams are perfect for hanging clothes, garbage bags, etc to keep the ants at bay

What would make it a perfect 5 Star rating is if you can add another wall at the front, BLUE Zipper is already in the lining ready to go

Super easy to use. Mounting was tough because I had to drill holes into my RTT. My Gobi rack needed a custom attachment. I wish I had known that at the time.

I just finished mounting the 270 Openroad awning.
I have not used it yet but I have a trip scheduled coming up.
So far I like it. I can confirm that after it’s mounted it only takes about a minute and a half to fully deploy it.

I love it. Portable shade where ever you go. There are a few fitment issues when mounting to a toyota tacoma roof rack. There will be about 15 inches of under coverage on the back side unless you mount it to your open road topper. It's not as secure as the roof rack mounting but it will at least fit flush to the topper corner if thats what you are going for. Overall its a great product and with care will last a very long time.
Also note if you are mounting to a roof rack you may need to use the topper crossbar mounting plates as spacers to even the gap from the roof rack rails to the roof rack frame. Mine has an 1/8th of an inch difference between the two. I used 1/4" by 20TPI Tslot nuts with 1" bolts to secure everything in place and with 3 brackets and 4 bolts in each that means that sucker is going nowhere once it is mounted to the roof rack! Like always though be sure to periodically check your mounting hardware to ensure it stays secure during travel and use.

Excellent product. Easy to install and use.

The awning works great on my Ranger Raptor Rhino Rack Platform, but I was always running into the support poles in poor lighting conditions. I added red self adhesive heat shrink tubing, in two places per pole, this really helps. I think these poles should be a bright contrasting color, not dead black. Silver or orange would be my preference. I don’t think it would add any extra cost to offer a color choice, or make a bright color standard on all of them. John Davies, Spokane WA

I had some difficulties installing the 270° awning. Once installed, it's a total game changer. Easy to setup; super fast setup! The walls zippered together/up like BUTTER!

Review: OPENROAD 270 Free Standing Awning (with Sidewalls)
Overall Rating: 4 / 5
An incredibly feature-rich and sturdy awning setup. While the user experience is slightly held back by tricky installation alignment, a lack of spare hardware, and some early cover wear, the design innovation, rapid delivery, and wall quality make it an excellent value for anyone willing to do a little DIY fine-tuning.
Shipping, Delivery, & First Impressions
Blazing Fast Delivery: I want to highly praise the speed of delivery. It arrived incredibly fast.
Separate Packages, No Tracking: The awning and the sidewalls did arrive in separate packages about a week apart. While not a major issue, there was no tracking notification indicating a split shipment, which left me wondering when the walls would show up. Providing split tracking would be a great room for improvement.
Design, Build, & Standout Features
The overall design and build quality are excellent. It is packed with great features that show real thought went into its development:
Integrated Lighting: Built-in lighting is a fantastic, premium touch that makes camp setup at night seamless.
Drop-Down Poles: The attached drop-down poles are sturdy, convenient, and easy to deploy when extra support is needed.
Rain Runoff Mini-Pole: They included an upper mini-pole designed specifically to facilitate water runoff, preventing the fabric from pooling during rain—a brilliant addition.
Installation & Bracket Mounting (Pro-Tips Included!)
The Bracket Dilemma: The awning requires at least three brackets. It comes with nice, heavy-duty hardware, but I had to use custom brackets specific to my Lone Peak camper shell.
The Hinge Alignment Struggle: Getting the main rear hinge aligned correctly with the back of the vehicle took several frustrating attempts. The manual really needs to include some clear alignment guidance or measurements.
The Mounting Headache: Because the brackets had to go on the camper first, figuring out the exact placement in relation to the awning track was incredibly awkward. I had to ensure the middle bracket was offset from the awning's bolt-slot cutouts so they wouldn't align perfectly (which prevents bolt installation). It required a lot of frustrating up-and-down adjustments with two people.
The Workaround (Do this instead!): I highly recommend mounting the brackets to the awning first, then building your own paper or cardboard template to transfer those exact bracket coordinates to your camper shell. Once I did this, mounting the camper brackets was a breeze, and I was able to easily hang the awning by myself.
Hardware & Spare Parts
No Room for Error: During installation, I accidentally cross-threaded one bolt (user error) and had to cut it off. Because the kit includes zero spare hardware, I had to order a replacement fastener from Amazon. Including even just one extra of each fastener size would be a massive, cheap customer-service win.
Sidewalls Performance & Color-Coding Critique
Great Build Quality: The walls themselves are well-made, zip on easily, zip together beautifully, and include plenty of sturdy stake points. The included guy lines are great and work exactly as they should.
The Color-Coding Puzzle: My only complaint with the walls is the color-coding system. Out of the 4 walls, 2 have green zippers and 2 have dark gray zippers (matching the zippers on the awning). However, because the wall sizes are different and must go in specific spots, it is still entirely up to the user to figure out which wall goes where and identify the door panel.
The Suggestion: It's a small detractor, but using four distinct colors for the zippers would make it immediately apparent which panel goes where without the guesswork.
Cover & Frame Durability Notes
Broken Fabric Stud: On only my second test deployment in calm weather, I noticed some binding when pulling the four-rib frame out to full extension. Upon closer inspection, the stud holding the fabric to the end of the second rib had broken off. I drilled it out and reset it with a pop rivet, which fixed it completely, but it shouldn't have broken so quickly.
Pinch Points When Folding: When packing up, the fabric sometimes binds in the arms. You have to carefully ensure it isn’t getting pinched in the metal frame when folding it into the zippered cover.
Early Cover Wear: After only a few weeks of use (installed June 10, today is July 14), the heavy-duty outer cover is already starting to show wear points at critical friction areas where the inner structure protrudes. I will likely need to patch these areas soon to prevent holes.
The Verdict
Despite a few minor quality-control quirks with the cover and a broken stud, the sheer number of premium features—like the runoff pole, integrated lights, and excellent wall kit—make this awning a winner. If you are a bit handy and don't mind making your own installation template, you will be highly satisfied with this setup.

Super easy to setup. The zipper walls are like butter! Many different possible configurations. Best purchase for my overlanding adventures.

Love how simple it was to install, I do a lot of bank fishing near the river and at falcon lake here in south Texas where it gets into triple digits in the summer time regularly. The 270 will definitely keep me comfortable when doing my fishing this summer. Can't wait to add the walls down the road.

Just got the 270° awning from Open Road 4WD mounted on my Chevy Silverado, and after putting it to the test over the Fourth of July weekend, I can honestly say it exceeded my expectations.
The install was straightforward, Brackets are solid, secure mount. The quality is impressive—from the heavy-duty storage bag and zippers to the awning material itself. Everything feels durable and built to handle years of use.
The best part Once we set it up, it became the spot everyone gravitated to. By the end of the day, our campsite turned into the hangout under the awning. It provided plenty of shade, handled the conditions without any issues, and packed away just as easily.
If you’re looking for a quality 270° awning for your truck or overland setup, I highly recommend checking out Open Road 4WD. Great product, solid construction, and exactly what I was looking for. Go get yours—you won’t be disappointed!

I couldn’t be happier with my OpenRoad 270 awning on my 2026 InTech Luna Rover. No regrets whatsoever.
We were pleasantly surprised how much “cover” the awning provides. We also purchased the side wall kit which will provide all-weather protection from the elements. (We haven’t used them in the wild yet, just installed them to make sure they fit. The did so easily and quickly).
I left the awning deployed for 3 days in 10-20 mph winds, with the support legs down, and it didn’t budge a bit. I’m positive it will withstand a little faster breeze if I anchored down the poles with tie down lines.
The awning opens pretty darn quick, literally in less than 30 seconds. It took me longer to unzip the case than it did to deploy the 270. Then add another 30 seconds to drop the support poles (if you need them, depending on the wind speed and direction) and you are done. It’s that simple. Returning the awning to its storage position is just as quick.
My wife and I installed the awning in about an hour, and that was on a round bar roof rack which required additional installation of an applicable mounting system (not included with the provided kit).
I compared this OpenRoad 270 awning to most other brands on the market and with awning you will get the most “Bang for your Buck”.
Nice Job OpenRoad, I will be buying from you again.

This is the first time using everything. 270 awning, bed cap with driver side insert holding all recovery gear and my electrically cooled cooler for drinks. Would love to add the water tank at some point.
Ray F.5/5Verified
Overall the awning is great. It’s quick to put up and put away. We got caught in a storm and with the poles deployed and guy lines staked down it was solid in 20+ mph gusts.
Some things I would improve: include a ratcheting wrench for install. The two wrench’s provided are worthless.
The awning walls are good quality and easy to deploy but why did we not make all zippers have double pulls? I had to go out in the storm to zip up the walls. Also, put the blackout panels on the windows and door on the inside, again had to go in the rain to open/close (and those have double pulls but you can’t use them from the inside).
For a budget awning, I would recommend this. Just make some updates to the next awning wall version.

Absolutely love to addition to the camping relaxation in the shade

Starting to think this company is kind of sketchy their phone number is disconnected and communicating with customer service makes a snail look fast. Any type of communication is not their strong suit orderer 270 degree awning and side wall got conformation of order and then nothing little over week later awning showed up no notification of shipping seemed in decent condition. About week later got it out put up on camper opened ( appeared in great condition but just opened long enough to see placement before tightening down )it marked where it needed to brought down tightened all brackets couple of days later buddy came back we put it up and tightened everything and low behold walls showed up again no notification it ever shipped. So we opened it up out up walls and was very happy with it took it down closed it up. So next day went out and opened it up to see how handled by myself and lo and behold was broken, so opened 3 times maybe 40 minutes total in driveway no wind and rivet broke. So tried to call and number disconnected emailed and no reply for 5 days emailed again finally got response several days later. They requested pictures which I sent and radio silence for another week, at which time they wanted me to fix it and they would give price break ( never said how much ). I replied I wasn't comfortable with that as was new and wanted to start off in pristine shape and again radio silence. Keep getting emails for review so here you go open road
