It was great and easy to setup and the x-hing is a great design and love the extra space with that design. Also love that there is a top air vent on the higher point of the tent to let the humidity /heat out to keep from getting very wet inside. I really like the clamps that secure the tent down, they feel heavy duty. After one use so far I've noticed I don't like the rain fly bar attachment points, they feel poorly engineered; the rain fly bar attachment points feel very shallow and make it easy for the bars to slip out while trying to set-up the fly, and feel as if the eventually rip, as well as the metal holes that the bars go into make it to where you will be scratching up paint on the tent itself or the bars and I don't like that design/eventual rust as the paint/coating will get scraped away.The bars also have a rubber protection for the tent material but are not glued or fully secured to the bars making it easy for the rubber to fall off and get lost in the dirt. The rain fly itself isn't taunt leaving a droop for water to get pooled into. The lights on the inside are very cool but the wires are too short and need to be longer as well as the power buttons for the lights feel very cheap and the rubber coating on the wires melted into the plastic controller from factory, making me have to unstick the wires from the controller leaving indented whites marks on the controller. There also needs to be some sort of wire management solution to the predestined light positions keeping the wires from going under the mattress or laying over the top of your feet. The mattress pad is comfortable but you will need some sort of extra cushion as it feels like you are still laying on a slightly cushioned hard board. The top of the tent bar support with the logo came bent.

Quality of the tent is excellent. Easy to use and mount. My only concern is the foam mattress pad. Just not enough padding to sleep totally comfortably. The interior dimensions of the tent are a little different than most inflatable mattresses, making it difficult to find a suitable alternative. There should be an inflatable option directly from openroad, but I have been unable to find one. Overall, very happy with the purchase, just need some minor tweaks.

This is my second review, and after several years of camping out of my OPENROAD aluminum hard-shell rooftop tent, I wanted to share my long-term experience. I have spent countless nights in this tent—easily hundreds of nights over the past few years—including a month-long extended trip where I slept in it every single night. Through all of that use, I have had zero issues to date. The tent has seen everything from tuff touring to hard off-road trails across both the eastern and western United States. The aluminum hard shell has held up incredibly well, and the tent material is just as good today as it was when it was brand new. After years of use and abuse, I honestly could not have asked for a better ownership experience. The best thing I can say about this tent is that it simply works. Night after night, trip after trip, it has provided a comfortable and reliable place to sleep without giving me any problems. That kind of dependability is exactly what makes it worth the purchase. I would absolutely buy this tent again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a rooftop tent that can handle serious use and real-world adventures.

Honestly, this is the best way to camp. You're off the ground, the sleep is comfortable, and it sets up and packs away in literal seconds—perfect when you’re on the move. I love the extra lift on the clamshell, too, because you actually have room to move without banging your head. My wife is also a huge fan. She loves the LED light bar inside, the comfy mattress, and not having to worry about what’s crawling around on the ground at night. Definitely a must have for the rig!

Very well built. This is my first RTT but I’m impressed with the tent. Mattress seems comfortable, have not slept in it yet. Excited to try it out. Great for 2 smaller adults or 1 kid and 1 adult. Got it for hunting so usually will just be me. Gets very dark inside once zipped up. All around, I’m very happy with it! Definitely recommend! Cons: Mounting bracket bolts are not very sturdy. Had 2 cross thread and bend on me. I drilled it out to 3/8” and went with grade 8 bolts. Would be easy on cross bar or bed rack style but a platform rack was a pain but my wife and I got it. Thank god she has small arms!

Loving our OpenRoad Roof Top Tent, especially with the insulated liner. We were caught In this past weekend's winter storm, With Temperatures between 12 & 18 degrees, and me my wife and our furbaby wrre kept warm the whole time. Even though it was windy, we didn't feel no swaying or alarming sounds coming from our RTT. We both felt completely safe and comfortable. I would 100% suggest this RTT to any overlander, or weekend camper.

Mounting was simple, the construction is very high quality and feels durable. A little challenging to fasten the clips to close the tent but at least you know they’re sturdy! The mattress pad is very comfortable but I still need some extra cushion under my shoulder bc I’m side sleeper but I feel like that’s always the case no matter the style of camping. Make sure you re-tighten all the small bolts on the shell itself, as after driving they can come loose. Overall the rig looks awesome on our 22’ OBW.

I haven't been able to get into any mud puddles yet. But felt great to get out and stretch it's wings. First off, I was very excited to get into the RTT world. After doing my research I felt like the OpenRoad tents would fit me best with the unique hinge design. For reference, I’m a big guy at 6’3” and 215 lbs. Yes, at full extension I barely touch both ends of the tent but while sleeping I never once felt uncomfortably squished or cramped due to my height, even with my 5’10” girlfriend sleeping with me. Secondly, I did have a few problems with the tent closing and the included hardware. The biggest reason this earns a 5 star is how above and beyond the customer service staff went for me is incredible, they sent me 2 additional buckles to solve my clamping issues, sent me the required hardware, and even sent me a free goodie for my troubles. OpenRoad will be my recommendation for anyone looking into a high quality rooftop tent, even considering the issues I had in the beginning with the product. The tent arrived exactly three weeks after ordering. Unfortunately, the box was in rough shape upon delivery, and the underside of the tent had minor damage, likely from a forklift impact during shipping. However, the damage wasn’t severe enough to warrant rejecting the tent. Customer service was excellent, promptly responding to all emails. Considering the price point, this tent offers great value.

Haven’t been overlanding yet but I can tell you it takes 5 minutes to set up, it’s very low profile so the wind drag isn’t bad, it was shipped very well and had no damage. Took 4 guys to lift it on top of my FJ, the only thing that would be better was a thicker mattress, but thats just about all RTT’s, I plan on adding a thicker mattress.

Love the look of this tent. Inside has black out material so no sun gets in, you almost lose track of time in there unless you unzip a window half way open at night. I was nervous to put this tent on my Audi a7 Because of worrisome stories that I’ve heard from The roof roof rack companies. But after doing Some research we went with a solid rack from Thule and moved forward and made the purchase of the Lt edition. We are more than excited with our set up!! This rooftop tent provides such Great stability! Upon Our first night in it, we got caught in the tail end of hurricane Debbie At the elements festival in the Poconos Raceway. While everybody’s canopies and tents were flying away. The structural stability of this RTT was holding solid and we were sleeping peacefully and unbothered. This is a solid investment for anyone’s travels ahead!
