This cap is awesome! I’m loving it. I’ve had it on a few weeks now, and It’s well built, very clean looking and fits my Gladiator perfectly. Finally my stuff won’t get rained, snowed on, or dusty any more; which for sure will save me tons of money down the road. I’m really loving the shape of this thing and it’s super strong. I currently have the 270 awning, and the quick open RTT from Openroad on there and it holds everything perfectly. This cap in my opinion is very comparable for its price!
I recently switched from a bed rack to the OpenRoad bed cap and couldn’t be happier. I transport adoptable dogs and like to turn my transport runs into camping trips. With this cap, I can keep all my gear dry and clean in the bed, while the pups take the back seat. No leaks and no dust in the back. This bed cap has made my transports easier and safer as I no longer have to pile my bedding and clothes in the passenger seat.
I've been considering different types of caps for a while now. There are some nice, versatile soft-top options out there, but I ultimately decided I wanted something more secure. Because I'm using this cap for an overland setup, I didn't want anything super heavy. After looking at several aluminum caps, I settled on the OPENROAD. The cap is solid, weather-tight, and sharp. Took a couple of hours to assemble, but it's pretty straight forward. You'll need at least 3 people to lift in place. Interior mounting points secure the cap cleanly, without any protruding bolts / mounting plates, etc. The plates are welded into the cap, so you bolt them directly to the existing bed rails on the sides and in the front. It's a very neat set up and doesn't require a lot to remove the cap. The crossbars are a must if you're planning on a RTT. We opted for the soft tent and mounted it pretty easily. Overall, I'm happy with the design and build quality of this cap.
So far the cap is amazing, I haven’t had any leaks once I got everything dialed in and sealed up. I only have one draw back the light bar button is not the greatest but I have it just hard wired into my truck so I push a button in the cab light comes on but other then that everything is great
The topper went to togther well even though there we 4 places of bent metal. I was able to fix those without hurting anything. The clamps on the side don't seem to work well and are a place to catch on clothing when inside. I replaced those clamps with ones I have used on previous truck. I think you should instruct the sealer to be put in between the metals when it is assembled as well as using afterwards. I have one lock that is not functioning and needs work. I would also change the plastic lock tabs in the other direction. Overall the topper is a vast improvement over the fiberglass on the last truck and it looks great. You have a very good product with just a few updates to make it even better.
Very well package, high-quality material, finishes, outstanding, easy to put together and very strong. I’ve stood on top of it multiple times and I’m 225 pounds.
My name is Gus from Tucson, Arizona. My wife and I are empty nesters and and we are venturing back into the camping world. We both grew up camping and raised three wonderful kids pulling a trailer on some memorable adventures. Now , it was our time to venture out again but this time we’re going overland . I was really excited to see my truck cap being delivered. I got to work right away. It was well packaged and was delivered with no damage . I assembled the entire cap by myself in under and hour. Every bolt hole lined up no problem . I threw my tent on top and it was complete.
Thank you Openroad, let’s go camping .
Love the topper. The only dislike was that the lock covers face the front allowing them to potentially catch wind and flap. I found they were easily turned around.
The overall assembly was fairly straightforward. Alignment of the 270 took a little bit to figure out where it needed to land in order to clear the back window. But once all installed worked perfectly, we had a big family camping trip and even had space to be under during a rainstorm with a 270 that’s still allowed us to eat and hang out as a family.
We still have to install third brake light. But Love this camper top!! Directions were clear and thorough. Would have liked a few more tips on how to thread the electrical wiring from third brake light through the truck bed to the rear light. But love how easy it was to assemble and install!
Order my cap June 28 2026 shipped very quickly.I messed up my shipping address tried to reach customer service by phone, nope so I emailed them with my correction no response tried again nothing, but I did get the topper just would have to nice to get a confirmation email of the correction. The topper is well built, just one problem drivers side door front latch won’t release without helping with a screwdriver try releasing tension but no luck. Plus the door itself doesn’t set evenly from side to side that’s why the front needs more tension, even with the door open the latch doesn’t work properly.
The install had some hiccups. Not all the pieces came together nicely, I had to heat up some joints, and bend them to get the pieces to fit together. Also one of the bolts on the rails broke off and I had to drill a hole through it secure it. The directions are incorrect on connecting the brake light to a Ford F150. You cannot use the rear brake light to tap into, there is a special connection from the engine bay that is designated for a cap rear break light. So I needed to purchase additional wire to make that happen. The directions book could use some better directions as to what bolts and nuts go where, it isn't clear and their are not any descriptions of what bolts to use.
Was an easy install. Instructions were good third brake light was easy installed as well. This one out and bought an extra slice so I didn’t have to cut into the wiring. Still trying to figure out the cab lighting. Not sure how I wanna place it and if I’m gonna add other lights, but all in all wonderful experience
Love this top. Rugged and sturdy but light. Waiting on the bins to get back in stock to get have it delivered.. local company charged me 275 to assemble and install on my truck..
I ordered this topper, crossbars and shelf for the driverside of my gladiator. 100% love my setup now. The quality and fitment were great. Assembled and Installed everything flawlessly on my jeep. Make sure you have a few guys to help drop the topper on your bed because you don't want to scratch your bedside from trying to do it by yourself. i did get some extra black sealant and sealed everything from the inside as I assembled it. I also used the supplied sealant in the kit to seal the outside seams once everything was finished. Lots of compliments so far!
Needed more room than just 5ft of bed space when camping in northern Michigan. This worked, everything stays dry and we literally doubled what we can carry. Before assembly I used the tube of sealant on all mating surfaces. I did this when the temperature was about 85 deg, even at that temp I had plenty of time to assemble. I installed a hoist on three of the joists in my building, brought it down nice and slow, very smooth. I like it, the pictures were after I took it for a test run to see if it rattled or made weird noises, it didn't.
When layed out on floor it all looks good.sides went to roof good, but the front panel had a section of bent flange that had to be straightened. Rear panel had a few holes that were hard to get bolts through.when on the truck i opened the right wing door and discovered all 4 piston mounts were bent, some not as bad as others but all had to be fixed.the box had no damage so if i had to guess the damage parts left your warehouse this way.for this i gave 4 stars.
Mounting tabs did not line up properly. Drilled and through bolted into the bed rail. Worked great. Being aluminum is nice that it isn’t too heavy and was easy to bang out the couple dents it received in shipping.
AWESOME truck cap!
I have shared a video of the installation and weatherproof test on my YouTube channel (AK ExploreMore).
The item arrived well packaged, installation was super easy, and the truck cap looks and feel solid. I am so excited to use this on my upcoming adventures. It gives me more cargo space (height wise) than my tonneau cover. I will be putting my rooftop tent on top of the cap. It is very nice to be able to access gears from the side/rear window openings. Tapping the third brake light was super easy as well on the 2025 Nissan Frontier (I show that on my video). Please be aware that the cap itself is pretty much 100% weatherproof when sealed properly with the provided silicone or DAP. The only part that might let water in is the truck bed itself, like the gaps/holes on the truck bed walls, or where the cap rest on the side rails, or your tailgate area. You can see more of that in my video. Long story short- this new in the market Openroad truck cap for the 22-26 Frontier is absolutely awesome!
Pretty straight forward with the installation.... was shocked just how much I liked it and the way it looks on the tundra!! not ur typical boring truck cap. Its rugged and gives the build a Madd maxx vibe!! Great job openroad4wd!!!
Im very happy with the bed cap truck its looks awesome, its give another different look to my Mojave, but the product came with some imperfections that I was able to fixed with out compromising the solid structure of the products, 1st the panel goes to the rear window came with 2 corners bends on the corner i was able to fixedwith a mallet , else welding was a little bit cracked, 2nd a small scratch on the outside of the cap , 3rd one key lock doesn't lock at all I think need adjustment I would try and fixed but other then that assembling was pretty straightforward with the manual of installation
Seems to well for the Nissan Frontier Pro 4x 2023 model. A little bit of water gets in but that simply an installation error on my part. Otherwise 8/10.
I bought my Truck Cap a month ago. I finally got it out at the Outer Banks in Corrola, NC. So far, I love it!!!
Came packaged very well. I was worried about shipping because it came ground. Everything was accounted for with zero damage.
I had planned to take to a buddy's house to put together but I could not wait. I was able to put it together with no issues by myself. The only issue I had was connecting the Third Brake light that was included. I ended up finding a good wire diagram online and got it hooked up with no issues.
We are planning more beach trips and some trips to the moutains in the years to come!!
Thank you!!
Easy to assemble, great looks and solid cap. I feel safer with my gear in the back is secure. Assembled it myself but took a helping hand to lift into position. Shipping was on time and all parts were included.
Overall Im very impressed and the best part is my friends are envious. I've been checking out the awning and wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.
