I spent about 6 months researching rooftop tents that would actually fit my family’s lifestyle. I’m military so we needed something durable, easy to set up, and big enough for a family of four plus our dog when needed. We are big into overlanding but we also do quick urban camping weekends with the kids when we are not traveling. Honestly I struggled to find a tent that checked all the boxes quality size and price. I was skeptical about OPENROAD at first since Reddit had me second guessing it but the price point and features were hard to ignore. I decided to take the chance and I am glad I did. We have used this tent multiple times around Big Sur and the Bay Area and it has absolutely held up. We even let the kids camp in it during a Bay Area storm just for fun and it handled it with zero leaks. Ventilation is solid and the included mattress is actually comfortable. Cleaning is easy too. I have vacuumed it out with a Dyson after trips with no issues. The fabric feels durable and breathable and the zippers are legit. If they can survive my kids constantly using them that says a lot. I have had higher end ground tents from REI where I had to constantly fix zipper issues and I have not had that problem here. Setup is quick about 5 minutes once you get the hang of it. I am 5 foot 10 and my wife is 5 foot so it takes us a little longer than some but still very manageable. Bottom line if you are looking for a solid affordable rooftop tent that actually works for a family this is it. You do not need to spend five thousand dollars on something like an iKamper to get quality. This tent delivers.
